A word from the mayor

July 4 2019, Salone de’ Cinquecento, Palazzo Vecchio, Firenze

Dario Nardella

Mayor of Florence

Once again, the big heart of Florence opens to help those in greatest need. This year, the beautiful Maggio Theatre – one of our city’s jewels – will be the site of a spectacular benefit concert for the Tommasino Bacciotti Foundation – a remarkable charity that provides no-cost housing for parents of children undergoing extensive treatment at our world-renowned Meyer Children’s Hospital.

The inspiration for the Florence China Charity Event was born from an idea by Jonnie Jiang, who I met last year in Florence during a mutual friend’s wedding. Jonnie has become fascinated by our city and will return at the beginning of July, where he will gift us with a special evening performing his beloved music that has attracted fans all over the world for over 30 years.

This wonderful concert event will help to further strengthen the already fruitful bond between Florence and China that such initiatives as the Sino Italian Design Exchange Center in Shanghai for Florentine businesses, and the joint activities between Florence and the University of Tongji have helped to achieve. Building on these strong foundations, we are excited to announce this first-ever benefit concert gala that celebrates the unity of our two cultures for a wonderful cause.

We look forward to seeing you at the Maggio Theatre!
